Things to Consider For Your BBQ Island

Size

First things first, you want to make sure you know how much space you have on your patio to place your BBQ island.  Islands come in all sorts of shapes and sizes, so there is likely something to accomodate your space.  With that being said, you'll want to make sure you have your measurements correct before buying!

Shape/Configuration

The prefabricated BBQ islands and island kits we carry come in 3 main shapes - linear, L shaped, and V shaped.

Linear and L shaped tend to be the most popular, and look exactly how they sound!  Either choose an island that has all counter space aligned in a straight line or choose one that has a 90 degree L shaped corner in it.

The V shape is a little less popular but can look spectacular when it's placed in the right space.

Features

When it comes to features, you'll want to consider what functionality you expect out of your outdoor kitchen range.

Most commonly, you'll find storage drawers and access doors built in to BBQ island kits so that you can store your tools and accessories.

With that being said, it's possible to find units that have refrigerators, sinks, and kegerators included.

Many of the other features you'll find are centered around the grill.  Consider whether you want grill lights, LED lit burner knobs, a rotisserie kit, and other accessories for your cooker!

Price Point

Inherently, prefabricated or modular grill islands will be less expensive compared to the cost of buying built-ins and paying a contractor to construct a full on custom outdoor kitchen.

With that being said, BBQ islands aren't exactly cheap and can definitely get up there in price.  Entry level islands cost about $4,000 and higher end units loaded with features can get up to $12,000 or more.

Power & Fuel Considerations

Do you want propane or natural gas?  If natural gas, where is your line to connect your BBQ island located?

On the power side, your grill might require one or multiple plug ins to power your grill lights, rotisserie, or refrigeration units.
